<P>Dr. Joseph Murphy (1898 - 1981) who spent considerable time in India learning Hindu philosophy helped form a new church in America with Hindu ideologies which later became one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country.<P> Murphy eventually married and he earned a Ph.D in psychology from the University of Southern California.
